100 Years of the RAF
The RAF celebrated its 100th anniversary on 1 April, having been formed by the merger of the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service in 1918. The new force received Royal Assent on 1 April and became the first dedicated air force of any country in the world.
To commemorate this event the publisher of The Armourer has created a souvenir magazine called 100 Years of the RAF 1918-2018. This 132-page magazine, printed on high quality, glossy paper covers everything you want to know about the RAF, from the heroes who designed and flew the planes, the iconic aircraft, the air bases they flew from, the history of the RAF, memorials, museums, airshows and even collecting RAF militaria. It costs £7.99 and can be ordered here.
Also, in this month’s issue (May) of The Armourer magazine, we take a look back at the early uniforms of the RAF, as the fledgling force strove to create its own identity. Here’s what to look for when collecting those rare outfits.
