The first comprehensive English-language illustrated history of seven decades of Latin American conflict, packed with rare and previously unpublished images, is to be published by Osprey Publishing.
From the Banana Wars of the early 20th century through to the Football War of 1969, South and Central America has been a hotbed of revolutions, rebellions and conflicts as diverse as they are numerous. Some were small-scale affairs involving poorly armed forces equipped with rifles, machetes and a few aged machine guns. Others were full- scale conflicts involving sophisticated armies equipped with tanks, artillery and aircraft, and hundreds of thousands of troops.
These wars often went largely unreported in the West, which was preoccupied with its own problems in fighting two world wars and dealing with Cold War tensions.
Indeed, in the latter half of the 20th century, South America itself became a Cold War battleground, as the Soviet and American superpowers vied for influence in the region, supporting rival factions in the various ongoing internal and external struggles.
For the first time in an illustrated single volume, this incredible book charts seven decades of conflict in South America, illuminating the fascinating history of the revolutions, rebellions and conflicts that changed the face of a continent.
