If you thought the name of the author of this tale of the scuttling of the German High Seas Fleet at Scapa Flow rings a bell then you’re correct.
Nick’s grandfather was Sir John Jellicoe who commanded the Grand Fleet at Jutland. This though is the story of the scuttling, as the German’s wiped away the shame of surrender by sending 54 of their ships to the bottom. The interesting thing is that access to German sources which gives a much better and more rounded view on when and why decisions were taken. There are also plenty of photos and illustrations to back up the narrative.
