Although the title might give the impression that these were women at home, they were in fact the ones who joined the various organisations to help the war effort. So here you have photos from the Mirror archives that explore the Auxiliary Territorial Service, Land Army, Auxiliary Air Force and Royal Naval Service.

A lot of them have rarely been seen and the photography is generally very high quality, demonstrating the skills of the Mirror's snappers. It makes for an interesting look at the various services.
