THOMAS McKELVEY CLEAVER
The subtitle of the latest book by TM Cleaver is VII Fighter Command Against the Luftwaffe 1942-1945. As such it’s all about the creation and deployment of the Eighth Air Force VIII Fighter Command that provided cover for the Eighth Air force bombers. It starts with a pivotal day in the history of the force, when American pilots intercepted and shot down large numbers from a superior Luftwaffe flight.
You’re then taken on the story of the people and their fights in the air, from the volunteers for the RAF, to the Normandy invasion and the final crippling of the German oil production. With a photo plate section and comments from both American and German pilots, this is a long, but fascinating tale.
