After the fierce battle to capture Guadalcanal the war in the Pacific moved on to the Solomon islands and the Japanese attempt to force the Americans back in Operation I-Go. Covering the months of March-October 1943 this is the story of the continuing battle and the Allied invasion of New Georgia, in the middle of the Solomon Islands. Given such a fairly narrow timeframe and scope you’ll be surprised to hear that this book runs to over 500 pages. That means it is packed with detail. For example, it starts with a Japanese massacre of Catholic Priests and assorted civilians, which takes up almost 50 pages. It’s well written, but one to read when you have lots of spare time as the detail is fantastic.
