BY ROGER DE RIJKE

This monster A4 hardback is a labour of love by Roger de Rijke and reveals details of the 41 soldiers of the 20th Infantry Division who were awarded the Knight’s Cross. Each soldier’s entry starts with a photo, more often than not a good quality studio shot, the date and location of their birth and death. Then for most there is a service history and then a collection of different media. This can take the form of award documents (over 650), letters, passes, newspaper clippings and personal photos. A nice touch is seeing some of the survivors of WWII in their later years. There are no captions as such so you’ll need to be able to read German to appreciate this vast and impressive body of work. It can be ordered from www.20pzgrendiv.eu.
