BY ROSS REYBURN

Wallace Reyburn was the only war correspondent that went ashore with the Canadian troops at Dieppe in 1942. He subsequently published his experiences, subject to the deprivations of the wartime censor, in 1943. This though, is both that short work, and an opening section by Wallace’s son who updates his father’s opinions with his comments after the war. It’s a visceral look at the battle, even if Ross’s contribution is rather leaden.
