James C Goodall takes a look at the subs of the US Navy.

A glorious, large wide format book, which is a follow up to the author’s previous work, this time covering the US Navy’s Seawolf Class (SSN-21) and Virginia Class (SSN-774) submarines.

The copious photography starts with design and construction, then testing and trials, and finally current operations. The photos from inside USS Connecticut are exclusive to this book and show everything from living and operating quarters to the crew at their stations. The photo of the Captain’s stateroom is a real eye-opener – no luxury here, the cabin is packed with equipment and to go to bed required the table to be folded up and a bunk bed to fold down. Backed up with technical detail, this is a real treat for nuclear sub enthusiasts.
