BY WB BARTLETT
Having previously authored a book on Vikings, WB Bartlett turns his attention to the Anglo-Zulu War. While Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift are the two most famous battles of the conflict, the author here looks at Hlobane and Khambula. In the first the British Army courted disaster again while in the second they finally managed to crush their resourceful enemy. In between you have the political story from both sides and a close look at the practicalities of campaigning in a hostile environment. There are lots of quotes from those involved and the prose itself is lively, making for an interesting look at a short but bloody war.
