If ever there was a love letter to the hobby of militaria collecting, this is it. It’s a large format, full colour journey through the battles on the Western Front with anecdotes, letters and artefacts from some 50 Allied personnel. The author makes clear he is an avid collector but goes beyond the superficial in search of the stories and interviews with veterans, some of who have now passed on since the project started. What you have then is a potted history covering the fall of France, the fighting in North Africa, Italy, D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge and the collapse of the Third Reich. For those unlucky to still be fighting, it was the Far East that continued to claim lives until the atomic bombs brought the war to a close.
With artefacts, stories, re-enactors, locations, ephemera, medals and all the other things that collectors love to collect scattered throughout the history you have a tremendous and visually fantastic look at the war through the eyes of veterans and collectors alike.
