We had Stalingrad through German eyes last month and now the same battle is viewed from the perspective of the doomed Luftwaffe attempt to keep the Sixth Army supplied by air. Once the Soviet counter offensive encircled the Sixth Army it should have been allowed to break out and retreat but Hitler decided it should stay put. Here we have the diaries and unpublished accounts of those doing the flying and fighting as the attempt to airlift a vast amount of supplies proved impossible despite their best efforts. It’s a detailed and ominous account.
