It’s time once again for that annual look at warships past and present, courtesy of Osprey’s Warship 2023 annual. This always contains an assorted selection of articles, which means you can dip in and out on topic of interest. They include The loss of HMS Audacious, the UN’s first 8in gun cruisers, post-war electronics warfare in the royal Navy, a feature on two French aircraft carriers, how Ansaldo of fascist Italy sold a battleship design to communist Soviet Union. In 1936, the battleship Massena, the development of the Yokosuka Navy Yard, some German flak ships and a rather chilling feature on how the US Navy is preparing to counter Chinese expansion in the Pacific. With high quality paper, some excellent schematics and great photos, it’s a great entry in the annual series.
